Ever since he played the pivotal dual roles of Stringbean & Batman in his Kindergarten play, Matt has been hooked on storytelling. Born with an incessant fascination with human behavior, Matt believes stories are essential to our survival and can't imagine a life without them - or the people who tell them.
Originally from Palo Alto, Matt took his laid-back California attitude and his 'undecided' focus to The University of Arizona, where he (quite literally) took a class called "Acting 101" and well, that was that. Graduating with two BFA's, he was named 'Student of the Year' by the College of Film & Television and headed straight for the opposite coast, where he spent the next 15 years working out of New York City -- appearing onstage, onscreen, in print, and this one time on some very nice lady's iPhone lockscreen.
Onstage, he has been spotted in over 80 productions across 34 states, stretching from The Ahmanson Theater in LA to the Longacre Theater on Broadway. He’s played Lincoln Center, The Goodspeed, St. Louis Rep (Kevin Kline Award nom.), Williamstown Theater Festival, The Beckett, The York, and more -- starring in shows like Harmony (Broadway World L.A. Award & Ovation Award noms), Bobby Gould in Hell, The Little Dog Laughed, Jersey Boys, and during a particularly stressful couple of weeks -- took a turn as all 40-characters in a sold-out, extended run of the one-man show Fully Committed directed by the legendary Jay Sandrich.
Matt's onscreen credits include “Boardwalk Empire” (HBO), “The Path” (Hulu), “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” (Amazon) & “Madam Secretary” (CBS). He also stars as Alex in “Incompleteness” (Best Actor in a Comedy nom. - NJ Webfest; Best Actor - NYC Web Fest; L.A. Actors Awards; AFIN Awards nom.) which has screened at numerous Film Festivals in the US and around the world.
His feature film credits include SET IT UP (Netflix), SOLD OUT, ONLY DANCE CAN SAVE US, and KENDRA & BETH. Additionally, Matt has appeared in a slew of live concerts, events, industrials & national commercials including CES Las Vegas, MGM Grand, the Indy 500, the Belmont Stakes, Southern Comfort & many more.
As a screenwriter, Matt finds himself drawn to stories about second chances, or that classic take of a character dealing with something in their past so then can move forward in the future, with recurring themes of guilt, redemption, and as hard as it can be find some days - hope.
In 2021, his spec script REDWOOD FALLS, a Coming-of-Age tale about a young boy who disappears over a waterfall trended on the Hollywood industry website The Black List, placed Top-25 at the PAGE International Screenwriting Awards and became a Top 5 Finalist at the Austin Film Festival.
In 2022, his spec script IF YOU CAN FIND ME I’M HERE - a feature biopic about Stephen Sondheim biopic and the creation of the musical Sweeney Todd also trended on the The Black List.
He has developed projects with LDR Creative & OnTheRocks Films (HBO's "UPROOTED), Ravenstream Productions, 11th Hour Studios and more. Currently at work on several scripted projects, he currently has two feature films in development.
When time allows, Matt also loves to teach and encourage young aspiring artists in both acting, and the craft of screenwriting.
He lives with his wife and two kiddos, loves a good blues guitar riff, and can't get enough of old baseball photos.
